My podcast is focused on how has the rise of social media impacted contemporary politics and the contents of my podcast have been separated into four main parts which are the term of politically active in online and offline, the potentialities and limitations of social media on politicians, examples of politicians using social media that have gained widespread attention, and the role and impact of online video parodies and satirical photoshopped images of politicians. In order for me to complete my podcast, I have adopted a strategy for me to create my podcast step by step. First of all is planning, which includes brainstorming key ideas, researching information and examples, and develop a script for my audio. The second step is recording, which requires me to record the contents of my podcast into audio. The third is editing, I have to edit my audio by adding my selected creative commons music as an intro and outro background music. The last step is to upload my podcast into my blog.
Furthermore, I have done some researches on journal article from Deakin Library, online websites and blog to explain the contents of my podcast. I have used journal articles to explain the term of politically active in online and offline, and the potentialities and limitations of social media on politicians in my podcast. Also, I have provided two examples of politicians using social media that have gained widespread attention from the articles and blogs in online website, one of the examples is related to the election in Malaysia and another is the UK. At last, I have used the article from the online websites to discuss the role and impact of online video parodies and satirical photoshopped images of politicians.
Moreover, the creation of the content in my podcast is come from the study notes in week 7 since the study notes have provided a range of study questions which are related to social media and politics so I had decided to use four of these questions as my content because I found that these questions have directly answered how has the rise of social media impacted contemporary politics which is the topic of my podcast. Also, I had selected to use Inova – Argofox – Canonblade-chasing-reality as my intro and outro background music because it has the Creative Commons licensed which enable me to use within my podcast.
During creating of my podcast, I have faced some challenges at first. The first challenge that I had met was the lengths of my audio since after I recorded my audio, I found that the length of my audio was way too long so I had to reorganise my script and recorded again but the length of my audio still could not meet the requirement of 5 minutes (with 10% leeway). Therefore, I had decided to calculate the approximately time that I take for every 100 words so after I found how long it takes for me to record 100 words, I had started to rewrite and reorganise my script within 700 words which will require approximately 5 minutes and therefore this time, I had successfully recorded the audio within 5 minutes (with 10% leeway). The next challenge that I had met was the use of audacity because I did not know how to upload more than one audio into the program and I did not know how to upload my selected music as well. Therefore, I had done some researches on the use of audacity on YouTube, and I finally found a full tutorial for the use of audacity and I have learnt the skills of editing my podcast from the YouTube. At last, I had successfully completed the editing of my audio in audacity. During this task, I have learnt how to organise my works in a productive way and I also have learnt a lot skills on developing my own podcast especially in editing audio.
